Information for Parent Council Members
The pdf leaflet is for new Parent Council members, to help them understand their role and signpost them to sources of information and support.
Parent Council Constitution and Policy
By law the Parent Council of each school is instated to facilitate the communication between the school, parents and the wider community within the framework of the Parental Involvement Act of 2006. In this context parents and carers are referred to as Parent Forum and you are automatically a member and eligible to get involved with the Parent Council as long as your children go to this school.
Objectives
The objectives of the Parent Council are:
-
To work in partnership with the school and local community to create a welcoming school which is inclusive for all parents
-
To promote partnership between the school, its pupils and all its parents
-
To develop and engage in activities which support the education and welfare of the pupil
-
To identify and represent the views of parents on the education provided by the school and other matters affecting the education and welfare of the pupils.
We always want to hear about your thoughts, ideas, opinions, criticism and concerns.
Parent Council Meetings
The meetings are open to the public. Parent Council meetings are generally kept as open as possible enabling not only PC members to attend but also any other stakeholders to make the work of the PC as effective as possible. There is an option of holding PC members only meetings if the need arises to discuss “exempt items”. Any Parent Council Member can request a closed meeting and detailed minutes will be provided afterwards.
